Social Security Disability can be a very important source of income for some families. Social Security Disability can be referred to as “America’s Safety Net” and for good reason. It can allow you to receive monthly checks if you have a disability and are unable to work at all or as much as you used to. That is if you apply and get approved of course. That’s where our Social Security Disability lawyers at the Lake of the Ozarks come in. We can help you apply and make sure you are completely prepared every step of the way. For a free consultation, please give us a call at 573-346-9990. In the meantime, our Social Security Disability lawyers in Camden County are here to give you a few tips for preparing for a Social Security Disability hearing in this week’s blog. Remember, if your Social Security Disability claim gets turned DOWN, call Derek BROWN at Deputy and Mizell.

3 Tips for Preparing for a Social Security Disability Hearing

1. Answer all questions you are asked in the hearing honestly.

You’d be surprised how often just failing to answer the Administrative Law Judge’s questions at all happens. It’s important that you not only answer the questions but that you answer them honestly. Feel free to take notes and come back to a question if you don’t understand it the first time it is asked. It can really help you to practice this process with your attorney. Many people feel nervous before their hearings and getting some good practice in beforehand can really help with your nerves.

2. Deeply explain how your disability limits you with your job.

Be specific when explaining how your disability limits you from performing in your career. For example, if you work in retail, but you have broken your ankle, explain exactly how long you can stand behind a register before it starts to hurt. Explain what pain feels like, as in it a burning sensation or more of a stinging like feeling. The more detailed you are the better.

3. Stay on point and focused during the hearing.

We get it. You’re nervous about the hearing and sometimes when you get nervous you can ramble on, that’s normal, but it’s not good to do in the middle of a Social Security Disability hearing. You can end up irritating the judge and effecting your hearing negatively. Again, practice can help with the nerves.
