The Top Things That Can Get Your Social Security Disability Taken Away

Social Security Disability has been referred to as “America’s safety net.” Why? Because if you qualify for Social Security Disability by having an injury, disability, or disorder that keeps you from working as much or at all, you may get monthly payments that allow you to keep supporting yourself in your time of need. However, these payments are necessarily a “forever.” Believe it or not, there are things that can keep you from receiving these monthly payments and Deputy and Mizell are here to inform you of them. If you are in need of a Social Security Disability lawyer at the Lake of the Ozarks to help you apply for and keep your payments, call Deputy and Mizell at 573-346-9990 for your free consultation today.

Things That Can Get Your Social Security Disability Taken Away

Working too much

The whole point behind getting Social Security Disability payments is to assist you because you either can’t work full time due to your disability or you can’t work at all. If you are currently collecting disability payments, but are working over the set amount of hours, you could either be told to make some of those payments back or lose your payments altogether.

Getting better, medically

If your disability starts to go away or heal over time, there’s a chance you could lose your Social Security Disability payments.

“You should be aware that you are responsible for letting us know if your health improves or you go back to work.”

If medical improvement is:

“Expected,” your case will normally be reviewed within six to 18 months after your benefits start.
“Possible,” your case will normally be reviewed no sooner than three years.
“Not expected,” your case will normally be reviewed no sooner than seven years

Being old enough to retire

Legally, you can’t receive Social Security Disability payments and Social Security retirement payments at the same time. Therefore, is you reach the age of retirement you will simply stop getting disability payment and start getting retirement payments.

Going to jail

If you go to prison for committing a crime, your disability payments will stop for the time period you are incarcerated for. Your benefits could be suspended for after 30 days of being in jail.
