Fall is right around the corner. Fall 2021 officially starts September 22nd. This can be such a beautiful time of year at the Lake of the Ozarks. The fall foliage can truly be amazing. While fall typically means there are fewer boaters out on the Lake compared to summer, it doesn’t mean boating season is over, not by a long shot. For locals, fall is an AWESOME time to go boating. The weather isn’t quite as hot and the Lake is less crowded. That being said, boat accidents at the Lake of the Ozarks can still happen. Keep reading this week’s blog for a few boating safety tips for the fall season. If you find yourself in a boating accident caused by a negligent boater, call Deputy and Mizell today. Get the compensation you deserve. We can be reached at 417-532-2191. Call today to schedule your free consultation.
Boating Safety Tips for the Fall 2021 Season
Be sure to dress appropriately for the season.
This is Missouri and the weather can be pretty unpredictable. That being said, there may be one day where it is pretty sunny and then it’s pretty cold the next. Be sure to keep that in mind when choosing your outfit for the day. You don’t want to catch a cold. Nothing can ruin your lake trip quicker.
Always have enough life jackets on board for everyone.
This should be a priority, no matter what time of year it is. It is the law to have enough life jackets on board anyway. It doesn’t hurt to actually wear the lifejacket too. While that’s not required by law, life jackets were made to save a life and that’s exactly what they do and have done many times.
Never drive a boat while intoxicated.
Again, this should be a priority no matter what time of year it is. If you operate a boat while intoxicated, you are not only putting your life at risk but the lives of others at risk too. Never under any circumstances should you drive your boat if you’ve reached the point of intoxicated. Call a friend or have your boat towed home. The consequences simply aren’t worth it.
Pack a first aid kit.
You never know what may happen on board a boat. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Make sure you have a first aid kit onboard and that it is fully stocked. If someone slips and falls or gets hurt in some other way while out and about on the boat, you should be prepared.
