Don’t be difficult.
Being difficult with the officer can only make things worse for you. Don’t give the officer a reason to have to arrest you on the spot.
Don’t forget to write down all of the details regarding what happened after you were pulled over.
When you have the chance, be sure to write everything down, for example:
- The location of where you were pulled over at
- What the officer told you to do upon being pulled over
- Whether or not you were given your Miranda rights
- The number of drinks you had
- What you were drinking, etc.
This information can come in handy for your case.
Don’t pull over into an unsafe location.
Be sure to pull into a safe location, avoid pulling on to the shoulder of an extremely busy highway if you can help it. Pull over at the closest safe area.
Don’t get out of your car.
Follow the instructions the police officer is giving you and do not get out of the car unless he or she says to. Do not make any sudden movements.
Don’t be rude to the police officer.
The police officer is only there to do their job, there is no reason to treat them badly. Choosing to cooperate can make things go a lot smoother. Avoid:
- Cursing at the police officer
- Not doing as they ask
- Running Away
- Getting violent or argumentative
- Raising your voice at the police officer
- Lying to the police officer
