3 Interesting Social Security Disability Statistics To Be Aware Of

1. More males than females were approved for Social Security Disability, 44% men versus 38% women in a specific study.

PLEASE NOTE:

Men were more likely than women to suffer from respiratory problems, injuries, and cardiovascular disease, and all of which have higher-than-average approval rates.

2. In a specific study, only about HALF of the people who quit work LESS than 150 days before applying for Social Security Disability actually received benefits.

PLEASE NOTE:

Be aware that applicants who are working over the limit that Social Security allows are IMMEDIATELY denied. Social Security Disability was designed for those who can’t work due to their disability. Don’t try to cheat the system, you will be wasting your time and putting yourself at a risk.

3. Only 30 percent (approximately) of Social Security disability applications are approved at the first stage of the application.

PLEASE NOTE:

Know what to expect at this point. Once you apply, it typically takes 90 to 120 days for the Social Security Administration to review your claim and either approve or deny your application. If you are approved, you will begin receiving disability benefits.

BONUS STATISTIC:

Only 35% of claims are denied AFTER the hearing. The rate of denials is much lower at this stage. 20% are dismissed.

PLEASE NOTE:

Once you have applied, if you are denied the first time, you should request for reconsideration. If your initial claim is denied, then you have 60 days to file a Request for Reconsideration in which the Social Security Administration will review your application again. This process takes approximately three to six months. If still denied, request a hearing level.
